SAN FRANCISCO — Draymond Green reportedly informed Deni Avdija that an elbow may be coming at some point in the future, while refusing to provide any additional scheduling information.
The warning came after Avdija committed a hard foul on Green, prompting Green to tell him, “Next time you go to the rim, watch what happens.”
Avdija apparently took that seriously.
According to Avdija, he spent the next game attacking the basket while mentally preparing for either an elbow, a punch, or some other form of Draymond-related customer service.
Nothing happened.
Afterward, Avdija told Green, “I was waiting for you.”
Green reportedly responded by explaining that the threat had not expired.
League sources said the exchange has left Avdija in the difficult position of not knowing whether the retaliation will arrive next possession, next month, or during a completely unrelated Tuesday in February.
Warriors officials declined to provide a timetable, describing the situation as “day-to-day, but spiritually indefinite.”
Avdija has since continued driving to the rim while maintaining what teammates described as unusually strong peripheral awareness.
Green, meanwhile, appeared pleased with the uncertainty.
At press time, Avdija was reportedly checking the schedule for future Warriors games and asking whether the NBA’s injury report has a designation for “awaiting elbow.”
