Ja Morant reportedly had one very simple reaction upon learning he had been traded to Portland:
“They sent me to Portland, man.”
And just like that, the Trail Blazers may have found their marketing campaign.
No expensive agency meeting. No focus groups. No inspirational footage of Mount Hood.
Just: THEY SENT ME TO PORTLAND, MAN.
Put it on the schedule graphics. Print it on shirts. Hang it outside the arena.
It somehow captures every possible emotion at once: surprise, confusion, acceptance and the feeling of discovering your flight has one extra connection.
Portland fans will probably embrace it immediately, because nothing builds chemistry faster than a new star sounding like he just received unexpected relocation paperwork.
To be fair, Morant may end up loving the city.
But first impressions matter, and this one arrived sounding less like a trade announcement and more like someone had just informed him where orientation was being held.
The Blazers finally got their new star.
They may also have accidentally gotten their slogan.
