Miami Heat officials asked fans to remain calm after Klay Thompson scored zero points in a preseason outing, explaining that the empty box-score line was actually part of a much larger spiritual spacing concept the organization has been developing all summer.
“A lot of casual observers still measure shooting with makes,” one team source said. “We’re trying to get beyond that. Sometimes the truest form of shooting gravity is the idea of points.”
According to the Heat, Thompson’s miss-free scoring column should not be interpreted as a slump, but as an elite act of restraint designed to keep defenses mentally occupied. Team staff described it as “very mature basketball” and noted that multiple defenders continued glancing in his direction, which they believe proves the plan is working exactly as intended.
Bam Adebayo reportedly spent part of the bench huddle explaining to Thompson that the process mattered more than the total, while Giannis Antetokounmpo encouraged everyone to focus on winning habits, rim pressure and the exciting possibility that all the shots were simply being saved for games that count a little more.
The organization also stressed that the preseason is a laboratory, not a courtroom, and that nobody should overreact to one quiet shooting night from one of the greatest shooters in league history now wearing a Miami jersey.
Heat coaches remain optimistic. In fact, they said if Thompson scores next game, the experiment will immediately be declared a success. If he does not, Miami will simply release a second explanation involving floor balance, sacrifice and championship intention.
As of Saturday morning, the team’s official position was that zero is just a very aggressive form of patience.
