SACRAMENTO — An NBA team erased a 22-point deficit Tuesday after its opponent reportedly began thinking about postgame dinner midway through the fourth quarter.
“We had control,” said one player from the losing team. “Then somebody mentioned the restaurant reservation and I started wondering if we were sharing appetizers.”
The previously trailing team responded with full-court pressure, offensive rebounds, and a 17-2 run against defenders whose attention had shifted toward steak temperatures and whether the kitchen would still be open.
Timeouts briefly restored focus, though several players were observed discussing dessert options while coaches drew up defensive coverages.
By the final two minutes, the lead was gone and the comeback team was celebrating possessions with the energy of players who had only recently learned dinner was not guaranteed.
The winning coach credited resilience, effort, and the opponent’s premature emotional arrival at a nearby Italian restaurant.
Sources confirmed the reservation was eventually pushed back 45 minutes.
