OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Thunder accidentally acquired a 2041 second-round draft pick Tuesday while members of the front office were attempting to order lunch.

“We were just trying to get sandwiches,” said one staffer. “Then someone offered to swap pick protections and suddenly we owned another piece of the 2040s.”

The transaction reportedly began when an executive asked whether anyone wanted to split an order, language another team interpreted as an invitation to discuss future assets.

Within six minutes, Oklahoma City had moved a conditional exception, received cash considerations, and secured the right to select a player who is currently several years away from being born.

Team officials said the pick gives them additional flexibility should the 2041 draft become important for reasons nobody can yet imagine.

Analysts praised the move as classic asset management and immediately added the unknown selection to several hypothetical trades for current All-Stars.

Lunch arrived 20 minutes later without the extra fries the staff originally wanted.
