NEW YORK — The NBA unveiled another redesigned All-Star format Friday, assuring fans that players will receive a complete explanation approximately 40 seconds before tipoff.
“We wanted something intuitive,” said a league official standing beside a flowchart containing 19 arrows and three separate definitions of “winning.”
The event will reportedly feature rotating teams, a target score, bonus possessions, conference pride in selected quarters, and one mystery round the league insists will make sense in the building.
Captains will choose rosters through a process involving fan votes, player votes, coaches, algorithms, and a ceremonial envelope opened by someone from a streaming platform.
Players said they were excited to participate once somebody confirms whether they are playing one game, four games, or a short tournament against a team that does not technically exist yet.
League executives believe the complexity will restore competitiveness by ensuring no participant has enough time to realize it is an exhibition.
Officials promised to simplify the format next season by adding only two additional stages.
