MINNEAPOLIS — Anthony Edwards has officially welcomed new Timberwolves teammate LaMelo Ball to Minnesota while drawing one extremely firm boundary.
He will not be getting in a car with him.
Edwards joked in a recent Adidas campaign that he was excited to have Ball in Minnesota but would not be carpooling if LaMelo was driving, immediately establishing the first rule of their new backcourt partnership.
Team officials reportedly support the arrangement.
“We want them together on the court,” one fictional Wolves source said. “Transportation is a separate department.”
Ball joins Minnesota as the point guard expected to ease Edwards’ playmaking burden and give the Timberwolves one of the league’s most entertaining backcourts.
The pair have already worked out together and appear excited about the partnership.
Edwards simply prefers that any team bonding occur in stationary environments.
Sources say the Wolves are considering several transportation options, including separate vehicles, professional drivers and making Rudy Gobert pick everyone up.
LaMelo has not publicly objected.
Edwards, meanwhile, has made his position clear.
He is happy to share the ball.
He is not sharing the passenger seat.
