BRISTOL — An NBA debate program spent Tuesday morning examining whether a modern superstar could survive basketball in the 1990s, continuing television’s longest-running attempt to make athletes from different decades fight without meeting.
The panel considered hand-checking, physical defense, spacing, pace and several grainy highlight clips.
One analyst insisted today’s players would dominate because of superior skill.
Another argued they would be “put on the floor.”
Neither side appeared interested in stopping.
Producers then displayed photographs of 1990s defenders looking angry.
This was treated as supporting evidence.
The discussion eventually expanded into whether modern players could handle commercial flights, older shoes and televisions with fewer than six million pixels.
No conclusion was reached.
The debate will resume Thursday under the slightly modified title: “WOULD TODAY’S STARS EVEN WANT THE SMOKE?”
The NBA season begins next month.
