PHILADELPHIA — A routine 76ers social-media prank reportedly escalated into an unexpected seminar on spirituality, consciousness and mankind’s relationship with time after Jaylen Brown was shown a fake stopwatch frozen at exactly three seconds.
The challenge seemed simple: stop a timer at 3.00 seconds.
Brown believed he had done precisely that.
“It’s timing,” Brown explained confidently. “It’s a divine thing. You gotta be connected. They’re not connected like me. Right on the money.”
There was only one problem.
The timer was a screenshot.
Philadelphia’s social team had secretly displayed the same frozen 03:00 image regardless of when players pressed the button, meaning Brown had not so much mastered time as successfully interacted with a photograph.
Staff members eventually revealed the prank.
Brown laughed.
The internet did not move on.
Within hours, fans had turned the clip into another entry in Brown’s growing collection of unexpectedly philosophical basketball moments, prompting him to respond online with the only reasonable conclusion:
“It’s a divine thing.”
Sixers officials reportedly considered explaining that the prank involved basic image technology rather than cosmic alignment, but decided against interfering with the process.
Brown, meanwhile, has settled into Philadelphia following his blockbuster move from Boston and is preparing for his first season alongside LeBron James and the Sixers’ new-look roster.
Whether he can help Philadelphia contend remains to be seen.
Whether he remains spiritually connected to a JPEG displaying three seconds appears unquestionable.
