BOSTON — Bill Simmons has officially determined that Jaylen Brown winning Finals MVP was ridiculous, reaching the conclusion shortly after Brown stopped playing for the Celtics and became significantly easier to criticize.

“Jaylen Brown should not have won Finals MVP. That was ridiculous,” Simmons said, arguing that the award’s five-person voting panel was too small. “You should not be able to win Finals MVP by a 3-2 vote. Have 15 people. You have a million reporters there.”

The timing immediately drew attention, largely because Brown’s Finals MVP had somehow survived multiple years of Celtics discourse without being declared a historic voting emergency.

At the time, Brown was still in Boston, where his defense, scoring and ability to help deliver a championship were widely considered useful qualities.

Now that he is in Philadelphia, however, analysts confirmed several old achievements may be eligible for retroactive review.

Sources say Simmons is also examining whether Brown’s All-Star selections were properly audited and whether any favorable Celtics-era arguments accidentally remained on the books after the trade.

League officials have not indicated any plans to revisit the award, though Simmons reportedly supports expanding the voting panel to 15 people, preferably before any future former Celtic wins something.

Brown, meanwhile, remains in Philadelphia.

His 2024 Finals MVP trophy is still believed to be functioning normally.
