MILWAUKEE — During their first extended preparations for life without Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks reportedly made a troubling discovery while reviewing the team’s offensive playbook.
Most of it simply said “GIANNIS.”
Coaches initially believed several pages were missing before realizing the scheme had successfully operated that way for years.
One page featured a detailed half-court diagram consisting of four players standing somewhere and an arrow pointing toward the basket.
“Apparently this was Play A,” a staffer said. “Play B was Giannis in transition.”
Milwaukee is now building a more diversified offense in which multiple players are expected to dribble, create advantages and occasionally decide what happens next.
The transition has required additional meetings.
Veterans admitted they had forgotten that offensive possessions can continue after the first pass.
The Bucks insist the post-Giannis era offers opportunities for everyone.
Team officials are particularly excited about one revolutionary concept they discovered during film study: five different players are legally allowed to score.
Installation could take several weeks.
