DALLAS — Following a Rookie of the Year campaign, Cooper Flagg arrived at a Mavericks strategy meeting this week expecting coaches to discuss his sophomore development.
Instead, they handed him the franchise blueprint.
Flagg averaged 21 points as a rookie and enters Year 2 alongside Kyrie Irving and a reshaped Dallas roster.
“We don’t want to put too much pressure on him,” one fictional executive said while sliding over documents labeled offense, defense, culture, future and everything else.
Kyrie reportedly offered guidance while coaches explained that Flagg’s second-year goals include improving his jumper, becoming an All-Star and restoring complete emotional stability to Mavericks fans.
Flagg asked whether that last item was a basketball skill.
Nobody answered.
Dallas remains encouraged by his development.
The organization expects to gradually increase his responsibilities until, ideally, he is running the team by Thanksgiving.
