LOS ANGELES — Lakers head coach JJ Redick has reportedly installed a new offensive philosophy based on the idea that championship basketball, much like an epic fantasy quest, requires everyone in the room to remain connected at all times.
Redick recently referenced The Lord of the Rings while discussing team chemistry, and team sources say he has since gone fully all-in on what staff are now calling the Fellowship Offense.
The system allegedly centers on Luka Dončić serving as the primary ring bearer, with the rest of the roster helping carry the burden, protect the journey and occasionally set a quality screen.
Austin Reaves has reportedly been assigned Samwise-level responsibilities, mostly because coaches believe he will continue following Luka into any situation no matter how unreasonable it becomes.
Walker Kessler, meanwhile, was briefly classified as an ancient mountain creature before basketball operations settled on 'help-side giant.'
Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Matisse Thybulle and Kevon Looney are said to make up the supporting fellowship, each tasked with defending the perimeter, surviving transition chaos and resisting the temptation to stand still while Luka improvises.
One fictional assistant described the whiteboard session as 'part film review, part quest briefing, part cry for trust.'
Players reportedly nodded through diagrams involving arrows, weak-side actions and several hand-drawn mountains that nobody was allowed to question.
