DENVER — Nikola Jokić has apparently ended months of speculation about his future by confirming he plans to re-sign with the Nuggets next year, while also making it clear he does not require a 47-slide presentation explaining the organization’s long-term vision.

“I’m going to sign next year — if they want me,” Jokić said at media day, providing roughly the amount of drama he felt the situation deserved.

Denver executives were reportedly prepared for a much more complicated conversation.

Sources say the front office had assembled detailed materials covering roster construction, salary-cap flexibility, championship windows, future draft assets and a comprehensive five-year basketball plan.

Jokić declined to open the laptop.

The three-time MVP has delayed signing an extension in part because waiting could allow him to maximize his next contract, potentially putting him in position for a five-year deal worth around $360 million.

Some fans interpreted the delay as a possible sign he wanted to evaluate Denver’s direction.

Jokić apparently interpreted it as waiting until next year.

“He knows where the team is going,” one fictional Nuggets executive said. “Mostly because he works here.”

Denver has made significant roster changes and continues navigating a difficult salary-cap situation, but Jokić has repeatedly said he wants to remain with the franchise long term.

That should calm nervous Nuggets fans.

It may also disappoint anyone hoping for an elaborate superstar power struggle.

Jokić has a job.

Denver pays him extremely well to do it.

And next year, assuming everyone is still interested, he plans to continue.
