Kawhi Leonard is back in Toronto, allowing Raptors fans to officially declare the previous seven years non-canon.
Leonard’s return has immediately restored the franchise to its preferred historical timeline: Kawhi arrives, everyone gets excited, and absolutely nobody asks what happened in between.
“2019 was basically yesterday,” one fan explained while carefully removing several seasons from his memory. “There was a parade, then I blacked out for a while, and now Kawhi is back. Seems normal.”
Toronto supporters have already begun preparing for the reunion by rewatching the famous bouncing shot, wearing old championship gear and referring to Leonard exclusively as “our guy” despite a fairly substantial amount of basketball occurring elsewhere since then.
Team historians are reportedly updating official records to describe Leonard’s time away as an “extended load-management assignment.”
The Raptors are also expected to welcome him back with all the usual comforts: extremely loud home crowds, constant reminders of 2019 and at least one person asking whether he remembers the parade.
For Leonard, the reunion provides an opportunity to finish what he started.
Or start what he finished.
Nobody is completely sure.
Either way, Toronto has its guy back.
And as far as Raptors fans are concerned, the last seven years were merely an unusually long commercial break.
