PHILADELPHIA — With LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown now surrounding him, the Sixers have reportedly asked Tyrese Maxey to make the difficult adjustment to an offense featuring four players who are accustomed to receiving the basketball whenever they request it.
Coaches emphasized that the arrangement is mathematically possible because NBA games still use one ball.
“Tyrese has been great about it,” one team source said. “We just haven’t explained who gets it yet.”
Philadelphia’s new offense reportedly includes several advanced concepts, including sharing, waiting your turn and occasionally pretending a possession was designed for someone else.
Maxey has already begun preparing for a potential reduction in touches by practicing running extremely fast without receiving anything.
LeBron is expected to handle playmaking. Embiid will demand post touches. Brown will attack from the wing. Maxey will continue moving until somebody remembers he averaged a lot of points.
Nick Nurse insists there will be enough opportunities for everyone.
The Sixers have reportedly ordered three additional basketballs anyway, just in case the league changes the rules before April.
