**INGLEWOOD —** Los Angeles Clippers guard Darius Garland has reportedly defended his decision to ignore the opening tip against the Lakers on Wednesday night, explaining that basketball games last 48 minutes while a poorly secured hairstyle can ruin an entire evening.

The incident occurred when Clippers center Isaiah Jackson won the opening tip against Walker Kessler, sending the basketball toward Garland, who was still busy tying up his hair.

The ball rolled out of bounds.

Garland, meanwhile, successfully completed the more important possession.

"Basketball can wait. A bad hair day cannot," Garland reportedly explained in a completely fictional statement.

According to imaginary team sources, Garland believed the game would not officially begin until everyone had completed their final appearance checks.

Unfortunately, the NBA continues to operate under outdated rules requiring players to participate immediately after the referee throws the ball into the air.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue, whose team committed 24 turnovers in a 103–87 loss, reportedly declined to criticize Garland's priorities, acknowledging that at least one player had managed to hold something together.

The organization is now considering adding a mandatory hair inspection to its pregame routine, alongside stretching, shooting drills, and occasionally remembering which team is supposed to receive the opening tip.

League officials have reportedly rejected Garland's proposal for a 30-second grooming timeout, although discussions remain ongoing about whether a loose hair tie qualifies as an equipment malfunction.

Garland eventually finished with 14 points, proving he was fully capable of playing basketball once the hairstyle situation had been resolved.

**The Clippers lost the game by 16 points, but Garland left the arena with something far more important: not a single strand out of place.**
